Bike donations and shop sales help put more kids on bikes.

Our Re-Cyclery bicycle thrift store is a critical component of Trips for Kids Bay Area. The Re-Cyclery, and accompanying eBay store, provide great bargains and hard-to-find items to the community. Proceeds from the Re-Cyclery typically provide about half of the funding needed to run our Bay Area youth programs. Additionally, the bikes used for our programs, as well as the bikes kids earn through our Earn-A-Bike and Mobile Bike Workshops programs, come from donations made to the Re-Cyclery.

We are grateful to those who donate new and used bikes, parts, accessories, and clothing. These donated items are refurbished and then used by our programs or sold to the public at discounted prices. While many of the items donated to us are in exceptional shape, some are in need of a little extra TLC. We work hard to refurbish as many of bikes as possible, and those that cannot be fully refurbished provide valuable parts which help us bring other bikes back to life or might be passed along to our other bay area biking non-profit partners.

We are committed to keeping as much as possible out of the waste stream while helping to provide environmentally-friendly transportation and inspiring the community to ride.

  • We welcome your donations and invite you to come in and shop! In addition to bikes, we also have clothing, shoes, and bike accessories for sale.
  • With the rising cost of fuel and storage, the Re-Cyclery has added Recycle Fees of $10 - $20 for bikes with mild rust (chain or cables) or “big box” bikes (bikes from department and toy stores). Bikes purchased at stores like Target and Costco are not built to the same standard as proper bike shop quality bikes. They often do not stand up to regular use and do not meet the standard required for our programs.
  • Bike donations that we cannot use are given to other community affiliates.
Shopping at the Re-Cyclery isn’t the only way you can provide support. You can also donate your used bikes, parts, accessories or clothing, while getting a tax deduction.
