4Trips for Kids has an immediate opening for a part-time sales / customer service position!

Trips for Kids is seeking a professional, enthusiastic and friendly individual with exceptional customer service skills and a positive attitude to join our Re-Cyclery team in San Rafael. We are looking for a candidate with the right attitude and character traits rather than the candidate with the most experience. While prior bike retail experience is not mandatory, candidate must be willing and excited to learn about bicycles, cycling accessories, and cycling culture.

The sales and customer service role engages with TFK’s diverse customer base on a daily basis. This position is ideal for someone who loves sales, learns quickly, enjoys developing solutions from a wide variety of options, works tactfully and professionally with all customers, and wants to help people new to bicycling.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver professional, accessible, and helpful service to a diverse customer base
  • Provide engaging, upbeat customer interaction
  • Complete assignments and projects to meet our high quality standards
  • Assist in the shop’s daily operations, including inventory management, restocking, cleaning, organizing and merchandising
  • Share product knowledge and enthusiasm for bikes with customers
  • Direct customers through entire sales process
  • Build and maintain relationships with customers
  • Complete daily housekeeping and admin tasks
Required Skills
  • Commitment to exceptional customer service, strong interpersonal skills, and a friendly outgoing attitude
  • Desire to become a “product expert,” knowledgeable about our bikes and unique, quality accessories
  • Self-directed, energetic, flexible, personable with a good eye for detail and strong follow through

  • Knowledge and experience with differing styles of bicycles and bicycle accessories

Hours and Pay:

The sales and customer service position is part-time with competitive pay and benefits and potential to grow into full-time depending on performance.

COMMUNICATION MANAGER

 

The Communication Manager is a critical new position on the Trips for Kids (TFK) staff, with the overall responsibility for independently building TFK’s brand with creativity and passion, maintaining TFK’s branding in all its facets and growing public engagement with the organization’s wide scope of work. Key aspects include creating informative, inspiring and engaging messaging to brand TFK in the Marin and Bay Area communities and gain the increased goodwill and support of multiple audiences. A primary role of this position is to know and use the latest media tools for TFK’s marketing benefit.

This position will be responsible for generating and formatting all content. Equally important will be to measure and track the success of all the organization’s communication methods (print, digital, website, etc.). The Communications Manager will enforce the TFK style guidelines to maintain a consistent branding look and feel on all of its outreach.

The role requires someone with marketing experience, a love of digital/social media communications, strong graphic/layout experience, great writing skills, familiarity with current online graphic and video techniques, and bountiful creativity and innovation. Experience managing staff and volunteers for content generation is crucial as well.

Ideal candidate will help TFK migrate from its current website and social media to new platforms. This is a great opportunity to create new, efficient systems that will insure optimal and efficient internal processes that support the organization’s outreach.

 

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Serve as the main online voice and communicator of TFK by directing and managing the organization’s outreach and communications across all media platforms to all of TFK’s audiences: the public at large, business and agency partners, donors, volunteers, media, etc.
  • Create and/or edit text and visual content for all communication channels, implement and follow all messages and campaigns through each point in their lifecycles.
  • Determine the target audience, message content and frequency of outreach for all communications.
  • Track, measure, analyze and report all communications success.
  • Manage TFK’s outreach:
    • Blog posts and social media
    • eblasts creation and distribution
    • e-newsletter creation and distribution
    • website updates, structural and functional revisions, and content layout/formatting
    • Annual Report creation and digital distribution
    • all print collateral and social media communications for events and programs
  • Respond to and engage incoming requests, queries, and feedback in a timely and professional manner; involve relevant staff to craft appropriate responses and solutions.
  • Partner and collaborate closely with program staff to align communications strategy with program activities, and outreach and fundraising goals.
  • Educate and empower staff to improve their communication methodologies when applicable.

 

Required Skills
  • 4-6 years experience with marketing, media communications, and website and database management.
  • Strategic, creative, analytical thinker with proven history of taking projects from start to finish.
  • Expert ability in writing, editing and providing guidance for a range of media materials.
  • Well-versed and passionate about cutting-edge social media; experience developing plans involving the integration and measurement of multiple platforms.
  • Well organized and efficient multi-tasker who can manage multiple assignments and changing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with these communication tools:
    • WordPress (content publishing/managing/scheduling/editing)
    • Photoshop
    • Email Service Providers (i.e. Constant Contact, MailChimp, etc.)
    • HTML
    • Database management (SalesForce, etc.; cloud based preferred)
    • Facebook
    • Twitter
    • Hootsuite or other social network oversight tools

Are you a bike enthusiast with stellar mechanical skills? Do you enjoy working with fun, supportive, positive people? Does the idea of working in a retail bike shop that positively impacts the community and directly helps get more kids on bikes sound great to you? If variety brings spice to your life, versatility is your middle name and you answered yes to all of the above questions – then this could be the job for you and we would LOVE to chat!

TFK bike mechanics play a very important role in the Re-Cyclery bike shop, and our team. We are seeking qualified candidates with exceptional mechanical skills to refurbish used bikes, support our sales, be a bike and parts resource to our varied customer base and help maintain the order and selection of our merchandise.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Re-condition donated bikes and parts to safe, saleable condition
  • Merchandize bikes, parts and accessories to maximize presentation, accessibility and sales
  • Assist customers in finding appropriate bikes, parts, gear and accessories
  • Process donated items (sorting, pricing, tax deduction receipts)
  • Identify and strip bikes to be junked or salvaged for parts (not an easy task)
  • Maintain all work and display areas to be organized, clean and safe to access
  • Must be friendly, approachable, and  customer oriented
  • Possesses knowledge of bicycle components (know what is compatible & what is not, etc.)
  • Able to multitask on multiple levels
  • Any additional tasks that insure excellent customer service and outstanding value

 

Bike Shop Mechanics report to the Re-Cyclery Shop Manager and work as a team to meet Trips for Kid’s annual shop revenue generation goals.

 

Hours and Pay:

The bike mechanic is a full-time, 40 hours/week position with competitive pay and benefits. A typical work day is from 10 AM to 6 PM during the week and 9 AM to 4 or 5 PM on the weekend.
